The Portal to Hell
Did you know a real life portal exists in Derweze, Turkmenistan? Except you dont pop out of a different color portal somewhere else, this one takes you straight to a molten, fiery-hot death. While drilling in 1971, geologists tapped into a cavern filled with natural gas that collapsed the drilling rig, leaving a large hole with a diameter of about 70 metres. To avoid poisonous gas discharge, geologists did what anyone would do: they lit it on fire and hope for the best. 40 years later it still burns, prompting the locals to name it: “The Door to Hell”. And that’s how Doom started.
